Puppy Love

Shortly after Christmas Cody went outside to feed the dogs and found.....a puppy in our pen.  The puppies were not expected to be born for several weeks so we were very surprised.  We moved Dakota to more appropriate birthing conditions, a cushion in the house, and she had one more puppy, which was unfortunately stillborn.  Several hours later, no more puppies had been born.  So Cody and Dakota took a ride to the weekend emergency clinic where the vet performed a C-section. 6 bouncing little puppies came home later that evening.  Compared to the drama associated with the first batch of puppies we had last year, this crew has been blissfully uneventful.  Furthermore, since all the puppies have been healthy I have actually been able to enjoy these sweet little doggies in the home (except for the massive amount of puppy poop I am cleaning up ever few hours, the stink in the house, amount of work it takes to feed and clean their box and my allergies flaring up).  The puppies are growing fast and it is cute to see their little personalities develop.  All of them love to be snuggled.  One of them is a winer and whimpers often.  We have several barkers.  One will howl in the middle of the night.  And even though they are only the size of a pop can any one of them will growl if they happen to be startled.  Little bitty puppy growl, how adorable.  We only have a few more weeks before these little cuties will be ready to venture off to their new homes.  In the mean time I am enjoying their sweet puppy love.
