Spring Is Sprung
Spring has finally shown its golden sunrays in Colorado and love is in the air. What happens when love is in the air? Babies. Right now baby bunnies are everywhere! If you look out our window in the morning, afternoon or evening, you will see gangs of fuzzy bunnies everywhere. Sometimes you can see 10+ bunnies in one glimpse. The boys new favorite front yard activity is bunny chasing. And business is good for a bunny-chasing boy.
We also have a mama robin. Our little mama robin (bless her heart) tried to make a nest on top of a wren birdhouse we placed in our tree. The 50+ mph Colorado wind promptly blew the nest away. My heart was set on a bird nest for the boys to watch so I began to brainstorm. We needed something big enough for a nest but not too big. We needed something deep and with sides so the nest could withstand our high velocity winds and something that wouldn’t fill up with water when the wet season began. Not too expensive is always a nice perk as well. Commence thinking……..
Here is what I came up with, a plastic colander. Yes, we have a white trash bird nest tied into our tree and its working! The robin came back after her nest was blown away and began to rebuild in our colander. She is now a mama to 1 blue robin egg and sits in her nest all day long. We can watch her from our porch or our front window. Everyone is ecstatic to see the daily process from building a nest, to egg, to baby bird.
Finally clue that Spring has arrived, I have spotted several spiders out and about. Normally I am not fond of the 8 legged insect, but when I find them in spiderman form I can't help but love them! Check out Cole's spiderman shirt, shorts, hat, sunglasses and light up sandals. I support all forms of fashion expressions as long as he is wearing something other than the blue Mater tee shirt and Thomas the Train shorts he wore everyday for over a year. Bust out the sunscreen and shorts, Spring has found it way to Colorado.
that nest idea is brilliant!
