Hot Air Balloon Festival 2014

The early bird gets the worm.  Or in our case, the early bird gets incredible memories over Labor Day.  The annual Hot Air Balloon Festival is by far one of my favorite things to do in Colorado. A 6:30 start time is always a weekend sacrifice, but as soon as you are surrounded by dozens of balloons, all traces of sleep are gone.  For 2 hours the only things said are: Ooooo, look over there, another one took off, wow, over here, and look at that one!

The weather this morning was perfect.  The temperature wasn't too cool and we only needed a light jacket which made the experience automatically an improvement from years past.  As a result both of the boys actually enjoyed the festival.  Plus this year we were able go with our good friends: Kristy, Brian, Cora and Emmie.  In fact, we watched the balloons for over an hour and a half before any child  asked to leave.  Some new balloons showed up to fly which turned out to be big crowd pleasers.  The jester, elephant and Cheshier Cat complete with cat butt and tail made everyone talk.    

This particular festival was bitter sweet because as of right now, after 35 years, 2014 will be the last festival held in Colorado Springs.  I am very sad to see the festival leave because I never get tired of this……..
