This past week has been all about cooking. Chopped Junior, Kids Bake Off and Cake Wars have been blasting from the tv and stirring up creativity in the boys. Cole went to a cooking class taught by his old teacher earlier this week and made mini burgers on rolls, pasta salad with veggies and iced orange drop cookies (which were delicious)! He had a great time with some of his classmates and is ready to take another class when available. And this weekend we have been experimenting with flavors. Saturday we cut up biscuits, shaped them into circles, knots, twists, snakes and balls and topped the baked goods with a variety of flavored glazes such as: lime, orange, vanilla and strawberry. Orange and Vanilla won between the boys, but I preferred the strawberry. Sunday we experimented with pancakes: banana, peanut butter banana, chocolate strawberry, chocolate peanut butter, vanilla strawberry, funfetti sprinkle, chocolate chip, apple pie and m&m. If that wasn't enough we topped a few of the pancakes off with whipped cream which tipped the delicious scale over the top. The dishwasher has been running full steam cleaning up all our bowls and mixing spoons. Experts say if the kids fix the food, they will be more likely to eat the food, but that typically isn't the case in our house. I've tried getting the boys in the kitchen to experimenting with different foods in the past but getting them to eat it is a different story. So I am glad the lightbulb finally went off and I have found a way to get creative with things they will actually taste. Next weekend maybe we will try muffins.
