70th Surprise!!

This past weekend I flew out to Oklahoma for a sneaky mission to prepare and execute a 70th surprise birthday party for my mom. The setting was perfect. Mom and Renny had been on an Alaskan cruise and the party was happening when they retuned home. I had time to fly in, prepare the house, set up decorations, tables and chairs with family as helpers, fix food, greet guests and she would be nonethewiser.

People were concerned, "what if their flight gets delayed?" No problem, my flight was delayed 3 hours the day before. Therefore I took the delay hickey so they could fly in on time. In fact, their flight actually ended up getting in EARLY and Jason had to stall on the drive home. People said, "oh won't they be tired after traveling?" Nope, the adrenaline rush kept everyone awake and even prevented a good nights sleep long after everyone had departed. People said, "will she be mad that she was dressed for flying, not a party." Not an issue. Mom looks better than 90% of the population even in her comfy clothes so she still looked fabulous.

We even managed to keep the entire thing a secret! Despite one bump in the road with communication we were ale to cover our tracks and she was totally unaware. Thats pretty good considering Jason, Renny and I have been planning this event since March and 40+ guest were able to keep a secret. I have never prepared food for 40 and was proud we were able to feed everyone. Jenny did an amazing job with all the floral arrangements. They were top notch spectacular. And Jason picked out a perfect cake that matched our color theme and decorations.

I videoed her coming into the house and my only regret was I turned the video off too soon. After she walked in, people yelled surprise, she leaned against the wall in shock, the happy birthday song was sung and then she started hugging people. She hugged 1 person, hugged 2 people. I was 3rd in the hug line. When she got to me, realized who I was, her reaction was almost better than when she first walked into the party. She screamed, jumped and said "what are you doing here?!" It was a great reaction.

I'm glad we were able to ring in this birthday with a big surprise, lots of friends and hopefully happy memories. Love you mom! Happy Birthday!!!!!!!
