Have you ever seen a tree almost 1,000 years old? I have.
Can you believe that? How much
life has that one tree experienced? It
is hard for me to conceive any living and growing organism could live and
thrive as long as that, but some of the trees in Canada can be dated up to
3,000 years old. Inconceivable! No one light a match because these beauties
need to be protected with everything available.
The northern,
western, and most of the central portions of the island are home to the
coniferous "big trees." Vancouver Island is also the location where
some of the tallest Douglas firs have been recorded. Anyway you shake it, these trees are H-U-G-E!
