Mom and Renny borrowed a friends cabin in Angle Fire New Mexico so we could celebrate and ski over the weekend. The cabin was just what a cabin should be: A frame, sky high windows, lined with pine, filled with sleeping nooks, bunkbeds and cozy fires all over the place. We played 1 never ending game of life that continued both evenings and pick up sticks in the morning. The sunrise Saturday morning was so beautiful I couldn't snap enough pictures. Unfortunately all the beautiful sun resulted in unseasonably warm weather which rendered Angle Fire almost unskiable. Only one lift was open and the wait was almost an hour long. Cody and I didn't get to ski over the weekend but the boys were already signed up for ski school and we were committed to the class. The kids did great. Since the grown ups weren't skiing everyone was able to stand around and watch some of the lessons before driving over to Taos for the afternoon. We had a few laughs while watching the boys especially when Cole accidentally pointed his skis downhill while trying to get on the magic carpet and wound up downhill tangled in the fence. The best part of his spill was when his instructor turned around and said in the sweetest sing song voice, "Coooole! Hey buuuddy. Watcha doing down there?" Hahahaha! Both of the boys rode the ski lifts alone! Worked on mastering pizza (wedge) and french fries (parallel skis). They skied down several green hills and looked pretty darn good by the end of the day. Poppie re-named the boys ski kings.
The weather on Sunday was better suited for skiing but since we were heading home in the afternoon and only had a half day at the cabin everyone slept in, ate a big breakfast of steak and eggs with left over birthday dinner steak from the evening before. Then we went back to the mountain to go tubing. Tubing was fast and fun! One hour later everyone had barreled down the mountain at least a dozen times at break neck speeds, been flung on to the crash mats and hollered on the downward ascent more than once.
The trip was was fast and furious but a great celebration. 40 was not only painless but fun. Thanks for a wonderful weekend Lele and Popie!
