With beautiful weekend weather shining down upon us, the family took a
little hike at Cheyenne Mountain State Park. The trail was great for kids. The trails were wonderfully labled and mapped along the way. The footing was flat. And there were plenty of interloping trails ranging from .25 miles to 5 and 6 miles long. Case was decked out in full hiking gear: hat, compass, binoculars, survival vest, etc. Case even carried his own water and canteen. While hiking we found the bones of a large deer or elk tucked away in the trees. Cody pointed out animal tracks, scrapes, deer poop and a woodpecker hole. But the most exciting find on our excursion was
an active prairie dog town. The boys unsuccessfully
attempted to sneak up and catch a dog or two and then spent the rest of the
time peering into prairie dog holes hoping to spy one hiding out.
